Artist Statement

Jakob Anckarsvärd’s work foremost must be regarded as landscape paintings with political messages.
Issues vary from migration, climate, international conflicts, everyday news, however the subject matter is rarely obvious but rather subtle with focus on a poetic or painterly result.
The work is influenced by predecessor such as Max Beckman, El Grecco, and the neo expressionist movement and holds existentialism as well as political ambitions.

On can also find rich influenc from art history and art theory in the starting point many motifs.

Anckarsvärd works mainly with painting, however, installation, videoart and artist’s books do occur complementing the outcome. Anckarsvärd is not anxious of working in neither sombre colours nor dark subject matters,
though continuously working towards optimistic solutions.
