Artist Statement

Jakob Anckarsvärd’s work foremost must be regarded as landscape paintings with political messages. Issues vary from migration, climate, everyday news, however the subject matter is rarely obvious but rather subtle with focus on a poetic or painterly result.
The work is richly influenced by psychology and existentialism as a product of work and volunteer experience, in addition to academic studies. References to art history and theory are often present even though the expression
and language used have a grounded and humanist approach.
Anckarsvärd works mainly with painting, however, installation, videoart and artist’s books do occur complementing the outcome. Anckarsvärd is not anxious of working in neither sombre colours nor dark subject matters,
though continuously working towards optimistic solutions.
